Bugs!

A praying mantis. A katydid on our porch railing in Colorado. Here's something you don't see everyday: a praying mantis chasing a katydid. Not to worry ... once he caught up with the katydid, the praying mantis figured his quarry wasn't very tasty. A moth about the size of a hummingbird. This is probably a white-lined sphinx moth. I saw this sphinx moth on a brick wall while washing my car. This is a bumble bee in our yard in Anchorage. The bee again. I used an external macro lens on my iPhone to take these bee pictures. The bumble bee chewing on a blade of grass. One more hairy bee pic. We saw this Asian spiny-backed spider in the Hawai'i Tropical Botanical Gardens. This male Blue Dasher dragonfly was sitting on the sidewalk outside our condo in Colorado. The short little orange bands at the tip of each wing indicate this is a male. Here is a close up of the Blue Dasher. He stayed just long enough for me to get some pictures, then he flew off to eat more bugs (yay!). This is a Giant Swallowtail butterfly I saw on a neighbor's rose bushes while walking Piper one day. [End of series. Return to the Photos page.]
